Week Thirteen Class writing

How do you think our future going to look like? 2027 (after 10 years)

I think during his presidency, Donald Trump will do something stupid to North Korea. And start war on the lands of Asia which South Korea didn't even asked for to start it. And I will become refugee in America and America would not accept refugee because Trump would not allow it. I will wonder around many countries with out knowing my parents are dead or alive. I might gonna die on the street before 10 years passes. When the war is over Asian countries will be damaged and S. Korea will be in ruins. In technology wise, I don't think it will be drastically different form nowadays. Just bit more machinery for everyday tasks will be common on every house like opening the curtains with out touching it. It will get better but still people who are minority will fight to get their rights.

2057 (after 30 years)

I think at this point  VR devices will be much affordable and they will selling the device to let people walk around with VR device with out actually waking around the actual room. 3D printers will find the way to adept in people's life. And there will be new uprising job that makes 3D printer's templates. Middle East countries will be damaged because America shoot bunch of missiles for "warning". A.Is will be more fluent and more human like. Robot technology will develop enough to make them run with two legs in a stable way. They will be able to produc almost perfect artificial organs. People who are minority in America will be almost at the state of total equality, but other country will not.

3057 (after 1000 years)

There will be automatic translator. So people don't have to learn other language. There might be microchip for body that will work like a smart phone. With combination of A.I and robot technology, I think there will be robot that are similar  to human helps normal day of people. Pollution will be so bad it will not be able to recover. So, people will start go out of space to find new planet to live in.

Week Thirteen Readings for Literary Speculation

The Distance from the Moon, is the first story of the collection ‘Cosmicomics’. Calvino starts with the scientific fact that the Moon was very close to the Earth. Then the tides gradually pushed her far away: the tides that the Moon herself causes in the Earth's waters, where the Earth slowly loses energy. But the story leads to fantastic and romantic way, the moon used to be closer to the earth, and from it creates a love story set in a time when the moon was close enough that people could reach it via a ladder. “The tides, when the Moon swung closer, rose so high nobody could hold them back. There were nights when the Moon was full and very, very low, and the tide was so high that the Moon missed a ducking in the sea by a hair's-breadth.” I know that all that is lie but I want to believe in my heart. When reading the story, I imagine that I sail to the very very full moon almost touching the tidal surface by small rowboat, climb to the moon and scoop the moon milk.

Week Twelve Diverse Position Science Fiction

In this story, the teller “I” is looks like ghost in haunted house or house elf. But she (the ghost) just think that herself is just same being but not visible to the other ones. In fact, the story does not say that she is ghost or something special one. She lives with You although you don’t know. She is very sincere and try to help You. Up to the end of story, she doesn’t know why You are so frightened and is wondering sincerely. “You” is an unnamed everywoman who spends too much time at whatever pointless job she’s given up to, comes home to a too-big house, empty save for the inevitable housecat. She could be anybody, me or, well, you. In the eye of “You”, “I” is very fearful being. But “I” has no evil willing to ‘You’. That concept was very fresh to me. Someday I would like to use this concept in my future work.

Week Eleven Cyberpunk & Steampunk

The author write in this column, I would like to talk frankly about "cyberpunk" -- not cyberpunk the synonym for computer criminal, but Cyberpunk the literary movement. Now I know many movies, animation and computer games in Cyberpunk genre.
In this essay, the typical format of the so-called Cyberpunk, which can be seen everywhere nowadays.
The concept of Matrix in which data and data pathways are represented as symbolic the virtual reality was firstly shown in the novel “Neuromancer” and was become the basic motives of the movie series “The Matrix” by Wachowski Bros. The Japanese Anime “Ghost in the Shell” is also base on the Matrix hyper space.
We all lives a life with classical material world and network data world at the same time though it is not so grooming as like in cyberpunk novel until now.
Now we can use Virtual Reality or Augmented Reality facilities even in home like VR headset or goggle and we can do many things on internet. If there exist some power group who want to control peoples with this data world, the cyberpunk world can be real in sooner or later.

Week Ten Narratives from the Multiverse

I have read I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison Five scientists made a super computer named A.M. and gave it artificial intelligence. One day, the computer recognized himself like “ I think, therefore I am” It made World War III to kill all the human beings except five scientists. They are caught in weird space (maybe cyber space?) and transformed their shape as AM’s will. AM tortured them until death and revived during 129 years until now. And AM shows them his bottomless hates. Why? I don’t know.

Week Nine The Final Frontier

I've read The Star. It wasn't really a story that I was exacted it to be, because usually for novel, story of religion and scientific space don't relate to each other. But this story is made around the Christian story. When the baby Jesus was born, a big star was shining really bright above where he was born. I never thought the brightness of that star is caused by the explosion of the star, and it is possible to think about what happened people living on that star in science fiction perspective. It would be quite feeling dejected and unfair to die to just be one giant sign where Jesus is born. It might be desperate and sad about it. It was quite fun to look at this direction that religion story can be part of science fiction. It feels like some sort of a genre cross over. I hope there are more novels like this.

Week Eight

Since it is too long to me to read all of it, I've read first part of it. Sounds like it is set at imaginary heaven like place main character's grandfather in high place in the kingdom ruling people, and suddenly giving one of important job to the main character with other siblings even though our main character is quiet a normal person to handle it. Because I haven't read all of it, I think this will be one of those story that main character successfully achieve the gal even though competitors are much superior in many ways then the main character. The story setting/world is wide in size with quite detail and appearances are also shown very well, using the whole chapter to describe. It is quite common way of story telling, but if the setting of the world and how the story delivered with unique ending will make it into a good story.

Week Seven Wizzard

Since when I was young, I loved Harry Potter series. I've read few books and watched all Harry Potter movies. Harry Potter sires are set at modern days with separate wizard world and school, and it is about Harry goes to wizard school. Every people want to have magic power and the wizard school gives the feeling of anyone can be wizard. It is always good to have prequel, squeal, or spin-off of a well made world. I heard few things about there are few stories about Harry's dad and his friends' stories are in Harry Potter books. I don't know where this zero chapter is located on the book or it is new sires of Harry Potter. But It is fun to know more about Harry Potter's world by prequel. It told the story of young version of James Potter, who is Harry's father, and Serious Black messing up with people, causing trouble. Usually when author show main character's parents, they are usually portrayed as perfect loving person with less characteristic. But for this with only 5 pages I could see what kind of person he and Sirius Black are. I hope J.K Rolling continue writing on this prequel.

Week Six The Heroic Journey

When I think of heroic journey, I think of a normal young man living a normal life go to journey because of sudden hardship, defeat the hardship, and comeback to normal life. But on Troll Bridge, It's quite different. Even though it is a short story, it tries to include the twist of the heroic journey. In this story, main character tried to get his honor with a talking horse by defeating a troll under the bridge. And turns out, that troll wasn't a bad guy after all. Troll used to have some treasure but dwarf took all after fixing the bridge. So, he doesn't do anything after he hear the story from the troll about what happen and came back to his home. Like what I said people expect hero to defeat the bad guys with evil purpose. But it is quite interesting to twist the actual whole purpose of type of literature for fun. I was also not expecting this but it looks like he had fun when he wrote this thing. It is always important to always being creative. So, I like what I've read.

Week FIve Witches

I've read comics Thessaly Witch for Hire and Witch Craft. I think the withes live at time periods that are set at long times ago are portrayed as quite cruel, brutal, powerful woman involve with cult like stuff, like in Witch Craft. Witches in modern times are portrayed as smart, flexible minded, and strong women who try to adapt in modern life, like in Thessaly Witch for Hire. I think witches were thought mysterious, dangerous and most powerful. But now, there are much more powerful weapons than witchcraft. I think that's what made people think witches will want to adapt on modern life because they are not the most powerful but human who lives a long life knows magic. This characteristic in novel also can be found in vampire novels, but those are usually for male main character and not necessary portrayed as smart character. It's quite interesting to think how time period can change the purpose of the certain types of  charter and status.
