I’ve read the ‘White ship’. Gothic horrors
are usually heading toward to sulky horror feeling, and they start with legends
pass by mouth to mouth like in ‘White Ship’. In the ‘white Ship’, there is a bearded
man telling the main character Basil Elton, about the wonders of secret place above
sunken slimy rocks far from the shore stands the gray lighthouse. Main character
goes journey, but just like usual Gothic horror, which is one of the
characteristic of Gothic horror, it goes wrong by the poor decision of main
character, which is going further than what the bearded man told Basil to go. It
also characterized by happening in fictional fantasy world, and internal struggle,
sub-consciousness of characters. Gothic horror usually centered with gore
creatures, but this one is only involved in fantasy world. It was quite interesting
to know that main character get punished by their poor decision not only happened
in recent horror movies but in old Gothics also.
